A Dynamics GP replacement now has a deadline. Microsoft ends product support and updates for Dynamics GP on December 31, 2029, and security patches on April 30, 2031, according to its Dynamics GP lifecycle policy. Most finance teams now need to decide where to move and when.

Business Central is one option
Microsoft provides migration tools from GP to Dynamics 365 Business Central, and for some companies that is the right move. Our advisory compares the platforms that fit your close, your entities and your reporting, Business Central included, and the recommendation says which one and why.
What moves, and what should not
- Open balances, vendors, customers and the history you use move across; older detail can stay in an archive you can still query.
- Custom reports and third-party GP add-ons are reviewed one by one: many become standard features, some become integrations, a few are retired.
- The chart of accounts is redesigned around the reporting you need now, rather than copied segment by segment from GP.

A timeline that avoids the rush
A replacement runs selection first, then implementation, then a parallel close. Starting well before 2029 leaves room to set your go-live around year-end and audit rather than around a support deadline.
Who does the work
Principal consultants scope, build and support the project, in a practice led by a founder with more than 30 years in mid-market finance systems. Replacing something other than GP? See ERP replacement consultant.

Common questions
Can we keep running GP after 2029?
The software will keep running, but Microsoft’s lifecycle policy ends product updates and regulatory tax updates after December 31, 2029, and security patches after April 30, 2031. Moving before support ends at the end of 2029 avoids running your books on unsupported software.
Is Business Central the simplest path?
It is the path Microsoft builds migration tools for, and for some companies it is the right answer. Others fit a different platform better. The comparison sets them side by side against your own requirements.

How we work
- Assess: a fixed-fee advisory, usually two to four weeks, built from your actual close and ending in a recommendation you can act on.
- Implement: chart of accounts, integrations and data migration, proved by a parallel close before go-live.
- Support: the principal consultants who built the system stay on after launch.
